Peer learning and cultural evolution

چکیده
In this article, we integrate cultural evolutionary theory with empirical research from developmental psychology, anthropology, and primatology to explore the role of peer learning in development complex instrumental skills behavioral norms. We show that imitation, contingent teaching, generative collaboration, selective copying contribute domain-specific transmission knowledge between peers. Stages characteristics inherent learner model influence how when children learn each other. Peer is persistent across societies despite beliefs favor adult–child some settings. Comparative hints at possibility children's greater motivation interact other may set humans apart primates. conclude by outlining avenues for future research, including individual changes social networks, motivation, cognition evolution.

متن کاملRepeated learning makes cultural evolution unique.
Although genetic information is acquired only once, cultural information can be both abandoned and reacquired during an individual's lifetime. Therefore, cultural evolution will be determined not only by cultural traits' ability to spread but also by how good they are at sticking with an individual; however, the evolutionary consequences of this aspect of culture have not previously been explor...
متن کاملCultural commons and cultural evolution
Culture evolves following a process that is akin to biological evolution, although with some significant differences. At the same time culture has often a collective good value for human groups. This paper studies culture in an evolutionary perspective, with a focus on the implications of group definition for the coexistence of different cultures. A model of cultural evolution is presented wher...
